Campus Goliath Killers

From December 27 to January 1st, approximately 2200 students from our region and Canada attended the annual Christmas Conference in Indianapolis. U of M had 60-70 students there. This was our first chance to really get to know some of the Michigan students. They were an encouragement to us and are excited and anxious for us to get to Ann Arbor.

Give Me the Rock

The theme of the conference was "Give Me the Rock!" Our main speaker was Paul Cox; he spoke about the life of David. He challenged students to be like David -- to be men and women after God's own heart, to be warriors who are not ashamed to fight the Goliaths of our day who reject and ridicule our Lord, and also to realize that, like David, we are susceptible to sin.
On the last evening of the week students were challenged to pick up their "rock" by considering what God would have them do both now on their campus and in the future after they graduate. Students were challenged specifically to consider doing one year internships with Crusade. Interns allow us to establish ministries on campuses where Campus Crusade does not currently have a presence. This is very important if we are to expose each of the 2.5 million college students in this Great Lakes region to the gospel.

Day of Outreach

We had one day where we went to different churches. From there went into the community handing out Boxes of Love and sharing the gospel. (Boxes of Love contain a meal for a family that is in need) This gave all the students the opportunity to be trained on how to share their faith and to actually do it. Our hope is that many students will now begin to share their faith back on campus.

Disability Ministry

One of the highlights for Shelly was the attention given to disabilities. There were probably 8-9 students and one staff woman at the conference who were in wheelchairs. Stacy, the staff member, who is a quadriplegic, held a seminar on how to reach disabled students on your campus.
Throughout the week students from various campuses gave testimonies. One of the testimonies was given by Jody, who has cerebral palsy. She is confined to a wheelchair and has a speech impediment. Jody became a Christian two years ago and is now leading a Bible study at Ball State. One statement she made was very powerful. She said, "If I can do it, anyone can do it." She is considering doing a one-year internship with Campus Crusade. She is a real testimony to the power of God!
