August 2002Nate
also to work at EMU
Over the past
few years the ministry has suffered on the men’s side because of staff
turnover. At the end of last year all of the men on the staff team, left leaving
the men’s side of the ministry without leadership. I am in a
unique position to help the ministry at EMU. My ministry at U-M is established
and I have mature leaders to head up the ministry in the dorms I am responsible
for. I have a few years of experience under my belt. I live a short ten minute
drive from the EMU campus (we are closer to EMU than U-M). I was asked in
the spring to step in temporarily to keep the men’s ministry going at Eastern.
Because of the above reasons I decided to take on this role for this year. I
will be working alongside the two women who have been working at Eastern. I will be
spending one day a week on campus at Eastern (the other days will still be at
U-M). My main strategy will be to meet as many men as possible and get them
involved in the ministry at Eastern. Because my time is limited I will be
looking for committed men who are willing to sacrifice themselves to see God
lifted up on campus. If I can work out the schedule I will try and lead a Bible
study on campus on the day I am there. Fortunately I will not have to spend
another evening away from home; this is just a day role for me. Let me make something clear. This is a temporary role. I am fully committed to the University of Michigan right now and plan on being here for some years to come. I simply happen to be in a unique position to help the ministry at Eastern. Our regional team will be looking this next year for the right man to come in and be a campus director at Eastern. They will also be looking for another staff man to come to the campus. Update on Andrew’s Arthritis
We
went to the doctor a week ago and she said Andrew’s knee is definitely better,
but that it still needs some work. He is now on a new medication similar to the
one he was on before, but he takes this one three times a day. He will also be
going in to the hospital on August 14th to get a steroid injection directly into
his left knee. The doctor said that this usually has very good results as the
medication is concentrated at the inflamed joint. Andrew will have to have
general anesthesia for this procedure as his leg must be perfectly still. Thank
you for praying for him. Please continue to pray that the arthritis will go into
remission and that the new medicine and the injection will enable him to regain
full movement in his knee. Kids’ Corner
It is so nice to be home with all of my toys! I spend a lot of my time with my blocks and legos now. I am able to help more with setting the table and doing laundry. I keep a good eye on my sister, too! She is fun to wrestle with but sometimes she cries when I grab her and roll her over. I sure miss the pool we had this summer. And I keep saying I want to go to the beach but Dad says there is no beach here. I don’t understand why not. -Andrew I am getting
into so much trouble now! It is really fun to watch my parents’ reaction when
I pull everything off the end tables
or pull all the books off the bookshelf. My mom says that I have taken a couple
of steps, but I didn't realize I was doing it. My hair is really curly and we
can’t go anywhere without someone commenting on my hair or my eyelashes.
I like to look at books but my mom says I can’t have the ones with paper
pages. I don't know why not—they are the ones that make the best noise when
you rip the pages! -Lauren
