Newsletters

October 2002

This month it's our turn!

We have gotten to the computer before our Daddy, and we are going to write the newsletter!

Daddy was very busy  at the beginning of the school year. He said he was working with his guys, so now I always talk about his guys when he goes to work. Some of them come to our house for a Bible study and they are loud! But I don’t bother them and go back to sleep. I think Mommy goes to a Bible study of girls. (It’s probably a lot quieter that Daddy’s Bible study!) Mommy usually makes brownies or a treat for the “guys” but they never leave any for me. Mommy said she’ll start leaving some out so that I can have it the next day.

Lauren and I get to go to the weekly meeting this year. They call it Cru. They have a video up on a big screen, a skit, and some fun music. Mommy takes us home when someone gets up front to talk and it gets quiet. Lauren is too loud and she doesn’t like to sit still long enough for us to stay. It’s fun to dance to the music! I stay pretty close to Mom but my sister tries to see how fast she can get away from Mommy and how many students she can meet. My Daddy sits down front. Mommy says he is working on the computer that shows the words to the songs. Daddy is training a student to do that so he will be able to sit with us until we leave.

We get to see a student on the nights when Mommy and Daddy have a date. I remember her from this summer so I’ve stopped crying when my parents leave. They like to go play a golf game using a Frisbee, only they call it a disc. I like when we go to the park and I can get my Frisbee out, too!

We will get to go to the Fall Retreat later this month. I remember that it was a lot of fun last year. I had a big leaf fight with my twin friends, Joey and Justin. The students helped, too.

Andrew said I could have a turn, too.

Did you know that I am 1 now? Mommy says that I act like I am 3, but I just need to keep up with my big brother.

I had a birthday party and had some chocolate cake. I picked off little pieces of the icing first, and then tried to see how much of the cake would fit in my mouth at one time. I love anything that is chocolate!

There are benefits to being a staff kid. Mommy bought lots of lemonade from Sam’s for a big picnic. She put it all in bags to make it easier to mix quickly. So she washed out all the cans and made big blocks for me to stack. When they fall down I say “uh-oh!”

Andrew tells me I will have fun at the Fall Retreat. As long as there are people there to talk to it will be fun. That will be in a week and a half.

Mommy keeps us busy. She goes to a meeting for moms twice a month. I think she calls it MOPs. I get to go play with some other children who are my age. It is so much fun! Other days we go play at a park and I get to skip my morning nap. When I skip my nap I always fall asleep on the way home!

The library isn’t too much fun because Mommy keeps telling me I can’t pull all the books off of the shelf. On Fridays we get to play with Joey and Justin while Mommy and Daddy have a meeting with all the staff.

Mommy found a new McDonalds that has a fun place where even I can play. It’s more of a drive than the other one, but I love to be a big kid! I can eat a cheeseburger, all except half of the bun. I really like the fries, too, and sometimes I even get a sip of Mommy’s drink.

I love hitting the baseball in our yard. But, even more than that, I like hitting the tee over instead of the ball!

Mommy and Daddy are always telling me to smile for the camera!

Campus Notes

As Andrew said, it has been a very busy beginning of the school year. Here are a few notes on how the ministry is going so far this semester.

  • At least 10 students have come to know Christ this fall at U-M and I have seen two guys receive Christ at Eastern Michigan.

  • We have seen significant growth in the small group Bible studies in almost every dorm on campus.

  • We had 400 at our first two weekly meetings of the year. This is an answer to prayer since we did not know how our move to Friday night would affect attendance.

  • I have enjoyed working with a whole new set of leaders on my area of campus including a bunch of sophomore men who have really been going for it in ministry.

A Worldwide Impact

It was nice of the kids to let me have a little space! I wanted to share with you some things that we learned from Worldwide Challenge, a magazine that Crusade publishes every other month. It gives glimpses of what God is doing through the various ministries of Campus Crusade for Christ throughout the world.

“Campus Crusade has a ministry presence in 190 countries, which represents 99.5 percent of the world’s population. This is 69 more countries than McDonald’s restaurants have reached.”

“In 2001, 17.6 million people indicated receiving Christ through Campus Crusade and its partners—equal to more than twice New Your City’s population.”

“Since the ministry began in 1951, more than 6.7 billion people have been exposed to the gospel worldwide through Campus Crusade and its partnership activities. In comparison, the world population in 2001 was 6.16 billion.”
