Reaching the Whole State of Michigan

We Buckeyes have an irreverent little song that goes “We don’t give a [hoot] for the whole state of Michigan… ‘cause we’re from Ohio.” While that song can be fun to sing on Ohio State/Michigan week of the football season, nothing could be further from the truth for us!

The truth is we care very much about this state, including the 250,000 students on 60 campuses where we have no ministry. Our director, Jeff Nieman, began thinking of ways that we as a strong campus team in Ann Arbor could expand our ministry to open the doors for our ministry on these campuses. The result is the vision you see in the brochure we’ve enclosed.

Where do we begin?

We will expand our U-M staff team to include Eastern Michigan University this fall. Four of our staff will be assigned to full-time work on this campus. Our staff will continue building our ministries at Albion College and Adrian College. We also plan to help coach a new ministry at Hillsdale College and try to begin at Siena Heights. Sometime over the next couple years we hope to re-launch our ministry at Western Michigan as well.

What about U-M?

We will continue to focus our ministry at U-M and build from here. We and the majority of our staff team will continue to focus here. We will begin to take on more campuses as new staff report or God gives us key volunteers.

Nate will have the opportunity to help train one of the new staff men at Eastern Michigan this next fall. He will spend one afternoon a week at Eastern, helping him to become more effective in developing disciples on that campus. This will be Nate’s first opportunity to help train a new staff guy and he is looking forward to it! This will be in addition to Nate’s ongoing ministry in the four dorms on his area of campus and the 20 student leaders he disciples.

Kids' Column

We went to Columbus for vacation a few weeks ago. I drew pictures of me and of Daddy on the computer at COSI. The manatees and turtles at the zoo were my favorite. And we had a hotel with a pool! Mommy even got to do some shopping at a thrift store while we were supposed to be napping.

Our trip to Columbus was a lot of fun. Once I got used to the water again I was swimming all over the place. It was fun to see my cousins and hang out with them, too. We ate pizza three days in a row—I can’t think of  a better vacation! We are going to stop at a zoo on our way to Florida. And I think one of the hotels will have a pool, too!

I have two teeth now! It is fun to chew on Mommy’s fingers and make her jump! I am also eating cereal now—it is pretty bland. But I will start with some sweet potatoes and squash in the next couple weeks. I have tried to grab Mommy’s french fries and cheeseburger but she said I can’t have that yet.
